New Zealand’s Most Scenic Hill Climb Returns Saturday, 29 November 2025  for High-Altitude Racing Thrills

This November, motorsport enthusiasts will witness one of the world’s most breathtaking racing events as the HP Academy Coronet Peak Hill Climb returns, combining technical driving challenges with the spectacular alpine scenery of Queenstown’s iconic mountains.

Since 1972, this beloved event has drawn passionate competitors and spectators to experience motorsport magic at 1,650 meters above sea level. The competition will see drivers tackle the demanding 2.7 kilometre course, climbing through Coronet Peak’s challenging corners. Who will master the mountain this year?

The unique format gives each driver three timed runs in the time attack sprints, with the fastest 10 competitors across all classes advancing to a thrilling Top 10 Shootout. In this winner takes all finale, drivers get one final run to determine the overall champion, runner-up, and third place, while remaining competitors claim class victories in their respective categories.

“The Coronet Peak Hill Climb represents over five decades of motorsport tradition in one of the world’s most stunning natural amphitheaters,” said Matty Pester, Queenstown Car Club Vice President. “This year promises to be bigger and better than ever, with incredible competitor entries and perfect conditions for both drivers and spectators.”

Pit walk starts at 9am with action continuing throughout the day until 4pm. Spectators can enjoy designated viewing areas throughout the course.

The event continues to thrive thanks to passionate volunteers, generous sponsors, and a dedicated motorsport community that has made this alpine hillclimb a cornerstone of New Zealand’s racing calendar.
